Indian Model Reportedly Slapped While Hosting TV Show Because Man Felt Her 'Short Dress' Was Inappropriate for a 'Muslim Woman
December 01, 2014
"Being a Muslim woman, she should not have worn such a short dress."
An Indian model was reportedly slapped by an angry audience member during a live TV singing competition because he claimed her outfit was inappropriate for a Muslim woman.
The model, Gauahar Khan, was hosting the finale of Film City in Goregaon, Mumbai, when 24-year-old Akil Malik allegedly got up and threatened to assault her — and he’s accused of following through on his threat.
“Being a Muslim woman, she should not have worn such a short dress,” Malik reportedly told police in Mumbai. He was eventually charged with “molestation” under the Indian Penal Code, according to the Daily Mail.
Despite a strong security presence at the event, Malik apparently still managed to get close enough to Khan, who was wearing dress with a low back at the time.
Though she was left stunned by the incident, and understandably so, she managed to return to the set roughly an hour later to finish taping the show.
