San Francisco Archbishop Reveals Why He Believes Gender Transitions Pose a Threat: 'The Clear Biological Fact Is...

"It’s all the story of a marriage."

San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone didn't mention Caitlyn Jenner — formerly known as Bruce Jenner — by name during a speech he delivered this week in New York City, but he did say that he believes that gender transitions pose a threat to the Christian faith.

"The clear biological fact is that a human being is born either male or female,” he said at the Sacra Liturgia conference, according to Religion New Service. "Yet now we have the idea gaining acceptance that biological sex and one’s personal gender identity can be at variance with each other, with more and more gender identities being invented."

Cordileone went on to speak about the importance of marriage and the negative impact that he believes "gender ideology" poses.

"This is because God has used marriage as the primary sacred sign of our relationship with him," he said. "It’s all the story of a marriage. God’s marriage covenant with Israel is fulfilled in the blood of Christ on the cross, establishing the new and eternal covenant between him, the bridegroom, and his bride, the church."

Cordileone's comments about gender transitions came after Jenner, 65, appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair, announcing her new identity as a woman after coming out as transgender earlier this year.
