New Poll Indicates There is a Clear Frontrunner in GOP Race, but With a Slight Twist
July 09, 2015
A new poll released Thursday puts real-estate mogul Donald Trump ahead of the GOP 2016 pack.
The Economist/YouGov Poll found that Trump was the first choice among Republicans for the nomination, placing him four points ahead of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Sen. Rand Paul, his nearest competitors.
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee all followed, tied with nine percent of the vote.
But, there was a twist.
While Trump leads the crowded GOP field, few think he will actually win the nomination.
In that category, Bush is the clear frontrunner. 29 percent of those surveyed think the former Florida governor will easily earn the nomination. Paul followed with 12 percent of the vote, with Rubio trailing in third place.
The Economist/YouGov Poll was taken from July 4-6. Participants were registered voters who identified as either Republicans or independents.
