Ted Cruz Was Asked if He Thinks Majority Leader Mitch McConnell Should Step Down — Here’s His Answer

"Do you think its time for Mitch McConnell to leave his role as leader of Senate Republicans?"

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) refused to say during a Wednesday radio interview whether or not he thinks Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell should step down from his leadership post.

The Texas senator, who is actively seeking the Republican nomination for president, was asked by substitute host Jamie Weinstein on the "Hugh Hewitt Show" whether McConnell should follow outgoing Speaker John Boehner's (R-Ohio) lead and resign his post.

"We just saw John Boehner announce that he will be stepping down as speaker in October. Do you think its time for Mitch McConnell to leave his role as leader of Senate Republicans?" Weinstein asked.

Despite having spent the last several minutes assailing Republican leadership, Cruz refused to take a firm position.

"Well, that's a question for Mitch to decide and for the Republican conference to decide," Cruz replied.

"What I think is important is that we have Republican leadership in both houses that actually honors the commitments we made to the voters," he continued, contending leadership failed to deliver most recently by passing a stopgap spending bill that averts a government shutdown, but funds President Barack Obama's most controversial measures.

Not seemingly satisfied with Cruz's answer, Weinstein asked him again before the conclusion of the segment.

"Just real quick: You have no position on McConnell stepping down? You don't have a position on that?" he asked.

"That is for him," Cruz said, before encouraging listeners to contribute to his presidential campaign.
