Woman Finally Figures Out Cause of ‘Scratching Noise’ in Her Ear. She Probably Wishes She Hadn’t.

Worse than anything she could have imagined.

Li Meng, from Xiamen, China, kept hearing mysterious "scratching" noises in her ear and had no idea what was causing it – and perhaps now she wishes she never would have found out.

Meng was also experiencing pain in her ear, which she had taken medicine for and had even went to the temple to pray about, but none of that worked. The pain finally became so unbearable that she sought medical attention, Fox News reported.

Was it an ear infection? Nope. A wax buildup? Try again.

What was inside Meng's ear was much worse than anything she could have imagined. As doctors discovered, there was a spider, living on Meng's ear drum and weaving a web inside her ear canal.

But removing the eight-legged creature wasn't an easy task, not even for Dr. Chen Zhaoyue, an ear, nose and throat specialist. Every time Zhaoyue tried to remove the spider from Meng's ear, it reacted violently, causing even more pain for Meng.

It took an unspecified ear drop to subdue the critter so that Zhaoyue could then pry the critter out with a pair of tweezers.

Her doctor believes the most reasonable explanation for how the spider got in her ear is that it crawled in while she was climbing a tree to pick some fresh fruits during a recent hiking trip.

Meng is now recovering. It wasn't immediately clear when, if ever, she plans to go hiking again.
