In Effort to ‘Stop the Insanity,’ a Fed-Up O’Reilly Suggests ‘What Should Happen in the Gun Arena’

"Liberal Americans who want all kinds of regulations are being irrational."

Bill O'Reilly skewered the talking points of Democratic politicians Monday night, contending that no amount of gun control can prevent a criminal or madman from committing heinous acts of murder.

The Fox News host noted that there are more than 300 million civilian-owned firearms in circulation throughout the U.S. He argued that even if gun the Second Amendment were disregarded and gun sales were stopped, firearms would still be widely available.

"Liberal Americans who want all kinds of regulations are being irrational," O'Reilly said.

O'Reilly then put forth his own solution.

"In order to stop the insanity, Talking Points will now put forth what should happen in the gun arena," he said.

O'Reilly contended that anyone who commits a crime with a firearm should have to answer to the federal government. He, however, said the actual gun laws should be created by the states.

"If someone commits a crime using a gun and is convicted, they should receive a mandatory five years in a federal penitentiary on top of the punishment for the other crime. That would go a long way in stopping the abuse of guns, would it not?" he asked.

Last week, O'Reilly received much attention for a message he delivered to President Barack Obama after the president called for increased gun control following the deadly Oregon shooting.
