FBI Investigating Incident of Bacon Wrapped on Mosque Doors as Possible Hate Crime

"There are still people out there who love to hate, unfortunately."

Police say a man wrapped bacon on the doors of a Las Vegas mosque last weekend weekend, and now the incident is being investigated by the FBI as a possible hate crime.

The vandalism at Masjid Tawheed mosque was captured on surveillance video and shows a man wrapping raw bacon around the door handles of the facility. In Islam, the faithful are forbidden to eat or even touch pork.

One of the mosque's founding members says fellow members are concerned about the incident and perceive it as a "deliberate attack" on their religion.

"There are still people out there who love to hate, unfortunately, so this was one of the sad incidents and it's unfortunate," Rokai Yusufzai told KGTV-TV.

Others, however, were more confused than anything by the alleged crime.

“To us, it’s not as offensive as he might think,” Fayyaz Raja, vice president of the Islamic Association of Las Vegas at Masjid Tawheed, told the Las Vegas Sun. “According to our religion, yes, we can’t touch it, we can’t eat it. That I understand. But to me, it’s comical.”
