Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders' Twitter followers did not take kindly to his tribute honoring Nancy Reagan following her death Sunday at age 94.
The Democratic presidential candidate decided to honor Reagan, whom he called "an exemplary first lady," adding that "she had a good heart" and "will be dearly missed" on Twitter Sunday afternoon.
This is a sad day for America. Nancy Reagan had a good heart, and she will be dearly missed. https://t.co/IXbgObtjtd— Bernie Sanders (@Bernie Sanders) 1457293785.0
Despite his kind words, Sanders' Twitter followers expressed their outrage at his tribute, explaining why they disliked Nancy Reagan and were glad that she had passed away.
@BernieSanders starting a failed war on drugs that destroyed so many innocent lives and fed the corrupt penal system? Good riddance, says I.— Timi2bks (@Timi2bks) 1457294179.0
@BernieSanders This was really unnecessary. They were both awful people and no reason to change history because they died.— Roibeard de Una (@Roibeard de Una) 1457294590.0
