Did You Know That?': Kasich Tries to Explain the Bible to Jewish Students

"Have you studied Joseph?”

While campaigning in Brooklyn ahead of the New York's April 19 primary, Republican presidential candidate Ohio Gov. John Kasich tried to explain the biblical story of Joseph to Jewish scholars.

“Do you guys like Joseph? Have you studied Joseph?” Kasich asked a group of yeshiva students. “Did you hear the most important thing Joseph said to his brothers? ‘My brothers, you meant it for evil, but God meant it for good.’ Did you know that?”

“Yes,” the students replied.

Kasich continued to press them.

“He may have been a little bit of a braggart, you know, Joseph, may have been a little bit maybe, but they threw him in that ditch and then his brother saved him, and then they sold him into slavery, and that’s how the Jews got to Egypt,” Kasich continued. “Right? Did you know that?”

“Yes,” the students replied.

“He’s going to give you a lecture,” one attendee said.

Yeshiva students study religious texts in great detail and would therefore be familiar with the story of Joseph.
