CNN panel explodes after contributor calls into question another panelist's 'blackness

Panelists speaking about the Charlottesville terror attack and President Donald Trump's resulting comments on a Monday CNN panel got ugly when one of the contributors questioned another contributor's blackness.

Paris Dennard and Keith Boykin faced off over Trump's comments, with Boykin claiming that Trump didn't show any "moral clarity" with his initial comments about the Charlottesville attack.

In response, Dennard maintained that the president's response evoked pride, and noted that Trump was not a bigot, as he formerly denounced David Duke during the 2016 presidential campaign.

“He has a history of racism and he has failed to repudiate this,” Boykin responded to Dennard's praise of the president. “I’m offended that you continue to go there, Paris, but the reality is that President Trump has not done enough. And I’m ashamed that you as an African-American, Paris, will not say that.”

Dennard, a black Republican Trump supporter, fired back and said, "Don’t come to me and tell me about what it means to be a black person in this country!" and later added, “Keith, I don’t need you to try and pull my black card. I am well aware of my blackness and don’t need you to try to classify me as being one.”

In response, Boykin asked, “Are you?” and claimed that Dennard was being overly "sensitive and defensive."

Dennard continued, warning Boykin.

"Keith, don’t go there,” he said. “Do not go there. I know what it means to be a black person in this country. I have experienced racism on a regular basis, by being a Trump supporter, and by being a proud American who happens to be a Republican. I get racist comments about my family. About my mother. About my girlfriend. About my character. Every single day and mostly coming from black people."

Dennard, clearly angered by this point, began addressing the panel's moderator, Brooke Baldwin, and said, "I will not come on this show and be disrespected."

"He better watch how he talks about me!" he added, referring to Boykin.

In response, Boykin shouted, "Paris, shut up, please, for God's sake!"

Not one to be told to shut up, Dennard fired back, “Don’t tell me to shut up on this show! This is preposterous!”
