Las Vegas shooter's girlfriend has returned from the Philippines - and is talking to the FBI

Details are unfolding slowly about the one person who might be able to unlock the Las Vegas shooter's real motivations — his girlfriend Marilou Danley.

Where is Marilou Danley?

Danley is known to have flown to the Philippines just prior to the horrible shooting perpetrated by Stephen Paddock. Tuesday night it was reported that she had arrived in the United States at Los Angeles airport on a flight from Manilla, Philippines. The FBI is said to have accompanied her and law enforcement officials are interviewing her.

Do investigators think she was involved in the shooting?

Law enforcement officials said on Tuesday that Danley became a person of interest after initially denying she had any involvement.

What does her family say?

In a tearful interview Tuesday, Danley's sisters said that she likely didn't know anything about the shooting because Paddock "sent her away" to the Philippines just before the attack. "She was sent away so that she will not be there to interfere with what he's planning," one sister said.

"She didn't even know she was going to the Philippines, until Steve said, 'Oh Marilou, I found you a cheap ticket to the Philippines,'" another sister explained.

"In that sense, I thank him for sparing my sister's life," the other sister added. "But that won't be able to compensate [for] the 59 people's lives."

Here's video of the interview with Danley's sisters:

What about the $100,000 the killer sent to the Philippines?

Law enforcement officials confirmed that Paddock wired $100,000 to his girlfriend's family in the Philippines just prior to the shooting, at about the same time he sent her back to the country.

What about reports of a double identity?

A bizarre report from Newsweek said that Danley used two social security numbers while in the U.S. and was married to two different men at the same time, but it has since been retracted.

Has Danley said anything publicly?

At this point, it appears that she has not spoken publicly. A law enforcement official said that she returned to the U.S. in order to "clear her name."

“No one can put the puzzles together,” Danley’s sister said. “No one except Marilou. Because Steve is not here to talk anymore. Only Marilou can maybe help.”

[Ed. Note: This post has been edited after publication to reflect that the report from Newsweek was retracted.]
