Texas Tech police officer shot and killed; suspect has been captured

Update, 9:42 p.m. According to the university via the Dallas Morning News, the suspect, 19-year-old freshman Hollis Daniels, has been captured by authorities.

 

According to a university spokesman, Texas Tech police officers performed a student welfare check on campus Monday evening. They found drug paraphernalia in the room, and took a suspect into the station for debriefing.

That's when the situation turned deadly, as the suspect pulled out a gun, shot the officer in the head, killing him immediately. In the chaos that followed, the suspect was able to escape the police station on foot.

The Texas Tech campus, located in Lubbock, Texas, is currently on lockdown, with alerts having been sent out across campus for everyone there to shelter in a safe place until the suspect is apprehended.
