Following President Donald Trump’s campaign rally-style speech in Pennsylvania over the weekend, Philippe Reines, a former senior adviser to Hillary Clinton, said he understands why Trump could win re-election in 2020.

What did Reines he say?

Trump was in Pennsylvania on Saturday to help boost Republican Rick Saccone, who is running against Democrat Conor Lamb in the special election for Pennsylvania’s 18th Congressional District.

Whether Trump will boost Saccone to victory Tuesday remains to be seen. But what Reines really noticed about the  rally was Trump’s popularity, and his ability to win over a crowd.

Reines explained to Fox News host Jesse Watters that he didn’t enjoy the “walk down memory lane” during the speech, but noted that "Boy, does Donald Trump know how to keep an audience in the palm of his hands.

"It actually is remarkable to watch,” he said.

"I understand why that man won in 2016. And I understand — I’m not terrified — but I understand why he may win again in 2020,” Reines explained.

Reines noted that Trump's speech could be an indicator that Republicans may be slipping heading into the 2018 midterm elections. Trump had to make to trips to the district to rally support for Saccone, while Vice President Mike Pence also visited the district twice, Reines noted.

Who is Reines?

In addition to serving as a senior adviser to Clinton during her years as secretary of state, Reines served as an adviser to Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign, where he was made famous for playing Trump during Clinton's debate preparations.
