Lewandowski's response to Down syndrome child being separated from mother at border: 'Womp, womp

Former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski raised eyebrows on Tuesday night because of why and how he cut off a fellow guest on CNN.

During a heated discussion about children being separated from their parents when illegal immigrants arrive at the U.S. border, senior Democratic National Committee adviser Zac Petkanas described the scenario of a 10-year-old girl with Down syndrome who was brought up as a case of particular concern.

Before Petkanas finished his sentence, Lewandowski cut in, saying "womp, womp," at which point Petkanas stopped his story and asked Lewandowski, "Did you just say 'womp, womp' to a 10-year-old with Down syndrome being taken from her mother? How dare you. How dare you. How absolutely dare you, sir."

Okay, let's see it

Here's a video showing the exchange:

What was the response?

Outrage over Lewandowski's comments was immediately expressed on social media, with The View co-host Megan McCain saying on Twitter: "This is so horrible, even by Lewandowski standards."

NBC host Megyn Kelly also weighed in with a tweet, adding, "There is no low to which this coward Corey Lewandowski won't sink. This man should not be afforded a national platform to spew his hate."

What else?

The comments from Lewandowski come as the Trump Administration has taken considerable heat of its own over the separation of children from their families upon arrival at the U.S. border.

Likewise, Fox News host Laura Ingraham used her show on Monday night to suggest that the conditions under which children were detained could be likened to "essentially summer camps."

Meanwhile, a recent poll shows that only 17 percent of Americans approve of the family separation policy, with 67 percent of those surveyed saying the practice is unacceptable.
