I gouged him in his eyes 'til I felt his brain': Gun-wielding home invader no match for his victim

One might say the crook in this case never saw his defeat coming.

What happened?

Richard Golden told WJXT-TV he was sitting in his Jacksonville, Florida, home Friday when he heard his glass door getting smashed — and then came face-to-face with a rifle-wielding man demanding money.

Golden told the station he began fighting with the intruder when a bit of good fortune transpired.

"He hit me in the head with a rifle, and a buddy of mine just happened to come up at just the right time to distract him," he told WJXT. "And when he distracted him, I made my move, and I grabbed him [and] locked the gun in."

Golden told the station he put the intruder, later identified as Timothy Hinson, in a headlock — and then his military training took over.

"Dropped the clip ... there was still one in the chamber, though," he recounted to WJXT. "It went off. I knew I wasn't dead. I knew I wasn't shot."

Then Golden let his fingers do the talking: "I gouged him in his eyes 'til I felt his brain," he told the station.

Think Golden was through? Not on your life.

Golden kept up his counterattack until police arrived, WJXT reported.

"I sat on him and gouged him in his eyes until the cops got here," he told the station. "I took his own gun away from him, beating him with it."

What happened afterward?

Hinson was treated for his injuries, arrested, and was in jail on a $250,000 bond until his July 30 court appearance, WJXT reported.

Golden lost one of his dogs which ran off during the struggle, the station said, adding that he also was cut on his arms during the incident.

He told WJXT he doesn't know why he was targeted and that he never saw Hinson before.

Golden managed to gain one thing, though, the station said — a new nickname he bestowed upon himself. "The Beast."
