Florida man planned 'mass casualty' attack during Cybertruck event in Austin, TX

A Florida man has been arrested after he threatened to commit a "mass casualty" attack at the Tesla Cybertruck event in Austin, Texas, which was to be attended by Elon Musk.

The Daily Mail reported that Paul Ryan Overeem, 28, was taken into custody by the authorities on Wednesday, the day before the Cybertruck event was set to take place. The event reportedly still took place, despite the apparent threat.

The police apparently believe Overeem intended to drive his vehicle from Orlando to Austin after sharing his plan to do so in a private Instagram chat, according to the report.

The authorities were alerted to the private message, and the police were able to find that the message had been sent by Overeem after discovering the phone number was connected to the account. The FBI made the arrest soon after.

Overeem is believed to have said: "But yeah so at teh (sic) Tesla event I'm planning to attach (sic) so up to you guys to stop me."

"I plan on killing people at that even (sic) ok (sic) November 30th and I would like you do something about it so I don't have to," and he proceeded to say that "I wanna die."

Overeem also suggested that he had become suddenly disillusioned by the way the modern world had become, and that he had a particular hatred for technology.

He said that he wanted to die, and that "[m]y thoughts haven't been free for over a year. All the electronics around me."

Despite the apparent plot to carry out a "mass casualty" at one the Cybertruck event, he has yet to comment about the planned attack.

Tesla CEO did make an appearance at the Cybertruck event, which described that the futuristic automobile had been in the making for a number of years. The vehicle is also said to be bulletproof.

CNBC reported that Musk said the vehicle's windows were "rock proof," adding that it could tow over 11,000 pounds and accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 2.6 seconds. Musk went on to say that the truck would "change the look of the roads," and that the future "finally looks like the future."

"What we have here is a better truck than a truck, while also being a better sports car than a sports car in the same package," Musk said.
