Lauren Boebert switches congressional districts to improve re-election odds: ‘Right move’

Colorado Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert announced Wednesday that she is abandoning her current congressional race ahead of the 2024 election and switching to a different district to improve her re-election odds.

Boebert currently represents Colorado’s 3rd District and plans to run for the state’s 4th District. Republicans hold a nine percentage-point advantage in the 3rd District compared to a 27 percentage-point edge in the 4th District, the Colorado Sun reported. Boebert believes the switch will increase her odds of being re-elected.

In a Wednesday Facebook post, Boebert wrote, “I wanted to let you, my constituents and supporters, hear directly from me about my plans for the 2024 election cycle and the importance of maintaining a conservative voice for Colorado in Congress as well as keeping our Republican House majority.”

“I am going to do everything in my power to represent the 3rd District well for the remainder of this term as I work to earn the trust of grassroots conservative voters in the 4th District to represent them in 2025,” she added.

Rep. Ken Buck of Colorado’s 4th District announced in November that he would not seek re-election.

In a video posted on social media, Boebert accused “Hollywood elites and progressive dark money groups” of attempting to “buy the 3rd District.”

Her 3rd District opponent, Democrat Adam Frisch, has raised three times more than Boebert over the last three months. Boebert was reelected in 2022, narrowly beating Frisch by 546 votes.

So far, the congresswoman has raised approximately $2.4 million, Business Insider reported.

Frisch’s campaign has raised more than $7.7 million, the most of any nonincumbent, according to the Federal Election Commission. Frisch was only outraised by Reps. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.).

Boebert stated that switching congressional districts in the upcoming election is the “right move” for her, the conservative movement, and Colorado.

Earlier this year, Boebert announced that she had filed for divorce from her husband, Jayson Boebert, citing “irreconcilable differences.” Several months later, Boebert issued an apology after she was caught on camera vaping and being fondled by her date during a “Beetlejuice” musical at the Buell Theatre.

“This announcement is a fresh start following a pretty difficult year for me and my family,” Boebert said Wednesday. “I had never been in politics before, and I’d never been through a divorce — something I never intended to go through. I’ve made my own personal mistakes and have owned up and apologized for them.”

“I did not arrive at this decision easily,” she continued. “A lot of prayer, a lot of tough conversations, and a lot of perspective convinced me that this is the best way I can continue to fight for Colorado, for the conservative movement, and for my children’s future.”
