'RuPaul's Drag Race' winner arrested for allegedly threatening to slay a cop

A former "RuPaul's Drag Race" winner recently modeled an orange outfit for a photo shoot, but did so sapped of his characteristic flare — understandable, as he was having his second mug shot taken inside a three-year window.

James William Ross IV, whose transvestic stage name is Tyra Sanchez, was recently arrested for allegedly threatening to slay a police officer in Starke, Florida.

According to an arrest report obtained by TMZ Saturday, the 35-year-old got into a car accident on May 17, approximately 45 miles southwest of Jacksonville in Starke. The fender bender appears to have psychically unmoored Ross.

When police arrived on the scene, Ross allegedly leaped out of his car and began berating the officers.

Officers' efforts to calm down the drag queen were to no avail. They tried to handcuff Ross, but he allegedly resisted and threatened to shoot an officer.

Police indicated that Ross subsequently attempted to reach into his car, but an officer intervened, placing him in a "bear hug."

This intervention reportedly failed, so officers deployed a taser, but that too proved ineffective.

While Ross allegedly attempted to escape on foot, he was soon captured and charged by the Starke Police Department with two misdemeanors: resisting an officer without violence and simple assault on an officer. He was released from jail on May 19.

The New York Daily News reported that since being named "America's Next Drag Superstar" in 2010 and landing a $25,000 prize, the runway has been particularly bumpy for Ross.

The father of two was reportedly banned from attending DragCon after posting threats online, telling a fan in 2016 to "go kill yourself b****," and suggesting that suicide survivors were cowards who "give up."

He was arrested in 2020 for allegedly vandalizing an Atlanta apartment complex where he was considered a squatter, writing "Don't move here ever" across a wall in spray paint.

In March 2022, Ross announced his retirement as a tranvestite and asked to be disassociated from "RuPaul's Drag Race," accusing the show and its fans of racism, reported Out.
