United Airlines sued after first-class passenger served 9 vodka drinks, allegedly sexually assaults woman

A United Airlines passenger who was sitting in first-class has apparently filed a lawsuit after she was sexually assaulted by a passenger who had one too many drinks.

The crew on the flight allegedly served the man in question at least nine vodka and orange juice beverages, according to the lawsuit obtained by the New York Post. The alleged incident took place on October 2 of last year, and the lawsuit was filed in a Colorado court on Wednesday.

The 51-year-old female victim — who has not been named — was apparently seated in 1A, which was right next to the alleged perpetrator, who has also not been identified. During the first half-hour of the flight, the report noted that the two had a "pleasant conversation."

The complaint went on to say that "[h]owever, once in-flight, the Assailant requested drink after drink," primarily vodka and orange juice. The constant request for more drinks "caused United's flight attendant to grow frustrated" with the situation.

"To avoid having to continue bringing him drinks so frequently, she began giving the Assailant multiple servings of alcohol at a time ... in larger glasses," the complaint said, per the Post.

The complaint went on to say that the flight attendant served the man "at least nine servings of alcohol, and possibly more," according to Business Insider Africa.

During the flight, the woman claimed that the intoxicated man "put his hand on her back" when she stood up to use the restroom. Then, an hour into the flight, she alleged that she "felt something on her leg," eventually realizing that it was the man's hand, according to the complaint.

The lawsuit noted that the drunk man "again put his hand on [the woman's] leg without her permission." Shortly after, the woman “placed [his hand] at the Assailant’s side to make clear that the touching was not welcome and needed to stop."

The situation only escalated from there, with the woman claiming that the man continued touching her inner thigh and "finally [dug] his hand into [her] crotch, all the while being told to stop."

The man was also said to have tried to rub the woman's foot, as well as reach under her shirt and rub her back. He even caressed the woman's "breasts three times," according to the complaint.

Just an hour before landing at their destination, the man apparently attempted to kiss the woman on the mouth, but she refused. "You need to stop this now," the woman said, as she "pushed him away in disgust," according to the complaint.

The report noted that United attendants made no attempt to check on the woman "or determine whether the Assailant's state of intoxication was creating problems or difficulties for [her]," per the lawsuit.

United did not immediately respond to the Post's request for comment on the situation.
