Former federal prosecutor and CNN analyst Jeffrey Toobin on Tuesday blasted President Donald Trump for his sudden decision to fire FBI Director James Comey.
Calling the termination “an extraordinary moment in American history,” Toobin warned that a new FBI director won’t simply come in and continue the investigation of Russia’s influence on the 2016 election. Partly due to the abrupt timing, Trump has been accused of firing Comey to thwart that investigation.
On Wednesday’s “The Morning Blaze with Doc Thompson,” Doc Thompson pointed out that Toobin essentially called New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie one of Trump’s stooges in the interview. Toobin said the investigation into Russia and potential collusion with the Trump campaign will be halted because Trump won’t choose an impartial director to replace Comey.
“They will put in a stooge who will shut down this investigation,” Toobin said. “They are in charge, the political people are in charge of the FBI, not the street agents. The street agents do what they’re told. And now, Donald Trump will put in maybe Chris Christie. Someone who will do his bidding.”
