Washington Examiner editor reminds Americans that the border crisis is only getting worse

Pete Kasperowicz, senior editor at the Washington Examiner, informs Mike Opelka that the illegal immigration crisis along America's southern border has only gotten worse, even as popular attention has shifted to other issues. Pete indicates that fear over Trump's border wall plan — and hope for amnesty if Clinton had won — has driven record numbers of illegal migrants over the Mexican border in recent months.

"It appears to be an election-driven event," Pete concludes. "I mean, we've never seen numbers in these months like this. So I would expect December numbers, which will come out sort of mid-January, and maybe even January numbers will be at record highs as people continue to flood in. Because now they're thinking...'Trump will be sworn in, and we'd better get in, you know, before the wall is built or before he cracks down.'"

Mike reflects on the likely impact of this influx of immigrants: "If we're experiencing a surge on the border bigger than what we saw in 2015, that's going to strain our system. And as someone who's walked the streets of the border towns, those are some of the poorest communities in the entire country, and they can ill afford to have more people straining their system. They just don't have the resources."
