Steve Deace: 'Capitalism doesn't make a nation great, it makes it sane.'
January 17, 2019
Capitalism insulates us from bad people
On this episode of the "Steve Deace Show," Steve Deace discussed Fox News host Tucker Carlson and his recent comments suggesting that Americans want to be happy. Deace related Carlson's theory of happiness to the idea of capitalism, a topic that Deace covers in great detail in his new book, "Truth Bombs: Confronting the Lies Conservatives Believe (To Our Own Demise)."
"Capitalism doesn't make a nation great, it makes it sane," Deace said.
According to Deace, there is a difference between capitalism and materialism, and there is a difference between corporatism and capitalism, though they each play a role in American lives. However, capitalism is the mechanism that allows us to insulate ourselves from bad people who would otherwise have access to everything we value.
Capitalism, according to Deace, is like a Band-Aid. You never think about a Band-Aid until you are hurt. A Band-Aid does not heal a wound. But what a Band-Aid does do is cover and insulate a wound. Deace asserted this is the point Tucker Carlson was trying to make.
