Glenn Beck debunks John Oliver's claim that Venezuela's problems aren't because of socialism
May 16, 2018
We've all heard the "well, that isn't really socialism" argument used about countries like Venezuela. You know that communism has claimed millions of lives and turned wealth into poverty, but there's always someone who will claim that people aren't eating rats to survive in Venezuela because of socialism.
Late-night comedian John Oliver looked at Venezuela's problems on his show this weekend, detailing his explanation of why "epic mismanagement," not socialism, is the problem in the oil-rich nation. He doesn't seem to realize that corruption and mismanagement are the hallmarks of socialist government.
On today's show, Glenn called this line of arguing the "Venezuela isn't real communism" fallacy.
"Oliver's smug ignorance is a little tiring," Glenn said. "When you are ... openly denying the 100 million dead from the experiments of Marx, I don't know, I just don't find it funny."
