New York police on guard after Antifa calls for a 'Deface Columbus Day

What’s happening?

Police are on alert for vandalism in New York City and think an attack on a particular target is likely.

Is this another statue story?

Yes, it is. Today is the federal holiday Columbus Day, and Antifa is calling on people to take action against the recognition of the Italian explorer Christopher Columbus. He’s known for discovering the New World on behalf of Spain in 1492.

The statue in Columbus Circle in Midtown Manhattan has been under 24/7 guard by New York police because of the holiday.

Glenn’s take:

Do people have the right to protest anything they want to protest? Of course. Do they have the right to vandalize property while doing it? Nope.

Glenn encouraged people to look at history in full detail instead of just relying on political talking points.

“For everyone who truly wants to see the whole picture [of our history], it’s available,” he said. “It’s complicated; it’s raw; it’s unedited.”
