Watch: Is a convenient ‘glitch’ really behind the FBI’s lost text messages?

What’s going on?

The latest update to the story about an FBI agent and an FBI lawyer who were exchanging anti-Trump text messages during FBI investigations involving both the Trump and Clinton campaigns.

The Justice Department is now saying that five months’ worth of text messages between Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, who were having an affair at the time, have been lost due to a “glitch” in the communications system that also affected thousands of other FBI devices during the same time period.

Remind me:

Republicans have been building a case for political bias in the FBI. The bureau has been accused of bias against then-presidential candidate Donald Trump during the 2016 campaign.

Text messages between Strzok and Page show their dislike of Trump and admiration of Hillary Clinton; Strzok, who was an FBI agent working on the investigation into Clinton’s email server, was later fired from the Russia probe over the text messages.

Glenn’s take:

Are we really going to believe in the FBI’s convenient “glitch”? Why not talk about whether Bigfoot is real while we’re at it?

“The glitch would have to be the most picky, selective and fortuitous glitch in modern history,” Glenn said.
