Jimmy Kimmel expertly trolls Donald Trump on Twitter live during Oscars
February 27, 2017
Late night talk show host and comedian Jimmy Kimmel hosted the Oscars award show Sunday night, and political jokes abounded.
Given the vast political differences between Hollywood and President Donald Trump, most people probably expected Kimmel and other Hollywood stars to bash and mock Trump during the show — and they did. But this time they didn't get a response from the president, much to the chagrin of the actors.
"You know, we're more than two hours into the show and Donald Trump hasn't tweeted at us once," Kimmel said during the live broadcast Sunday. "And I'm starting to get worried about him."
After all, Trump is the same man who bashed actress Meryl Streep last month as "overrated" after she went on an anti-Trump tirade while accepting an award at the Golden Globes.
And even though Trump remained quiet on his personal Twitter account late Sunday, that didn't stop Kimmel from "poking the bear" during the awards show.
"Hey @realDonaldTrump u up?" Kimmel tweeted at Trump during the show.
That tweet went insanely viral and quickly garnered nearly a quarter-million retweets and nearly a half-million "likes."
Kimmel followed it up with another tweet to troll the president.
"#Merylsayshi," Kimmel later tweeted at Trump, an obvious reference to the spat Streep had with Trump last month.
While tweeting, Kimmel had producers project his phone screen onto the main screen while the actors, actresses and celebrities in the crowd laughed at Kimmel's bit.
