Which phone?

The LG K7i, which operates on an Android platform.

How does it work?

The LG K7i emits ultrasonic waves from a mesh grid on the back side of the phone, which the company said is "absolutely safe and harmless for humans" but will repel mosquitoes. The phone also had a 72 percent success rate during clinical trials, according to LG.

Where is the phone available?

The new smartphone was just released in India this week, and the company said it is also considering rolling it out in other countries.

How much does the phone cost?

The cost is 7,990 rupees, which is equivalent to $122.

Why was it released in India first?

India has a widespread malaria problem.

In 2014, there were 1.1 million cases of malaria in India, which resulted in 561 deaths, according to India's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. LG wants to help combat the disease.

"The company has set a benchmark for ensuring the health of Indian consumers," LG's chief marketing officer Amit Gujral told CNNMoney.

Is this the first of its kind?

While this is the first smartphone with the mosquito repellent feature, LG also offers the same technology for appliances such as air conditioners and TVs.
