Breaking: Harvey Weinstein fired over sexual harassment allegations

Famed movie mogul Harvey Weinstein has been fired from The Weinstein Company after several allegations of sexual harassment were revealed in a New York Times exposé.

What did the company say?

The Weinstein Company released a statement explaining its actions.

"In light of new information about misconduct by Harvey Weinstein that has emerged in the past few days, the directors of The Weinstein Company — Robert Weinstein, Lance Maerov, Richard Koenigsberg and Tarak Ben Ammar — have determined, and have informed Harvey Weinstein, that his employment with The Weinstein Company is terminated, effective immediately."

What is he accused of?

According to a report in the New York Times, Weinstein was alleged to have committed several acts of sexual harassment against eight women over many decades.

After the report came out, another woman revealed her story of alleged sexual harassment. Lauren Sivan said that Weinstein committed a lewd act in front of her while blocking her from leaving a closed restaurant he had invited her to. The alleged event is said to have taken place a decade ago.

Weinstein had announced he was taking a leave of absence.

What has the response been?

The allegations has tossed Hollywood and the entire entertainment industry into a tempest of controversy as actors and others are assailed for the "worst kept secret" in Hollywood, even as they publicly decried sexual harassment allegations of others like President Donald Trump. Some actors and institutions are not publicly commenting on the scandal at all.
