In this episode of "Wilkow!" host Andrew Wilkow sits down with Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk to discuss how the decadeslong dominance of progressive thinkers in American schools has resulted in a generation of voters who view socialism more favorably than capitalism.
"If you're wondering how is it that radical leftists ... like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are succeeding in their hostile takeover of the Democratic Party, look no further than to the schools," Andrew said.
He talked about the powerful influence academia has over the "young and impressionable" and noted a recent poll that shows 61 percent of Americans between 18 and 24 years of age prefer socialism over capitalism.
Andrew asked Charlie how Turning Point USA — a national student movement dedicated to promoting the principles of free markets and limited government — is combating "the progressive death-grip on young Americans."
"We're up against formidable opposition ... It's tough. We're selling reality, they're selling Utopia," Charlie said. "An entire generation, my generation, has been told that they should be victims, they've been told that that they're dependent, that they deserve something just for existing. When in reality, we're a generation that has it better off than any other generation in the history of the world.
"My generation's definition of adversity is that a conservative came on a college campus to give a lecture," he added. "My job is to go on college campuses ... and I find that students are not opposed to our ideas inherently, it's that they're not exposed to them in the first place."
