'He deserves it': If we applaud the treatment of Chris Cuomo, then we deserve the same treatment in return

Time to extend some grace

Wonder Woman: My mother was right. She said the world of men do not deserve you. They don't deserve our help, Steve.
Steve Trevor: It's not about deserve!
Wonder Woman: They do not deserve our help.
Steve Trevor: Maybe we don't! But it's not about that, it's about what you believe. You don't think I get it, after what I've seen out there? You don't think I wish I could tell you that it was one bad guy to blame? It's not! We are all to blame.

The Fredo character in the movie “The Godfather" was so weak and clunky in his efforts to be part of the family business that even the bonds of familial love were not enough to save him in the end. His own brother had him wiped out. Permanently. Because according to the obvious rules of the mob game his kin unambiguously labored in, a simple truth came to rule Fredo's fate: He deserved it.

Which is the real point grownups should be considering after CNN anchor Chris Cuomo was confronted by a "conservative" while out with his family. Not whether the use of “Fredo" is a slur on par with the N-word. Or whether Cuomo was right or wrong to threaten violence upon being confronted. That's all noise.

It's about what we deserve versus what we believe.

For if we applaud and laugh at Chris Cuomo now, then we deserve the same harshness in return. We have accepted the terms of the gangster mob. It is a zero-sum game and nothing is off limits. There is no private time to buffer us from it. There is no escape from this Overton Window of search and destroy.

We in essence, as “conservatives," will have declared Cuomo trending on Twitter to own the libs as a more important dividend vis a vis the time, talent, and treasure we spend in the political arena than, oh, securing the border or preventing the killing of babies. How could it be otherwise if changing hearts and minds is so clearly being traded in for crushing and mocking them in the most juvenile manner possible?

I'm being dead serious. Which should obviously tell you that not only do I want no part of that garbage, but I will fight it at every turn and in every way I can.

I refuse to be part of a clickservative horde or play by its barbaric rules. I got into this to fight for truth, the very truth that I, too, once stood against in how I lived my life. Which means I deserved worse, far worse, than I now have in nearly all aspects of my life as a natural consequence.

But thank God for grace.

By grace I stand with the blessings of a family and a career that I treasure. That grace now commands me to "love my neighbor as I love myself." I'm not a fan of Cuomo's daily douchtastic dumbassery on the air. But I'm also not a fan of extending douchtastic dumbassery to him off the air when he's with his family. We don't like it when partisans who think Cuomo is Aristotle do it to us, so why would we do it to them?

Some of you will scream in response "but Cuomo deserves it." That may even be true, but thank God that He offers us grace instead of what we always deserve. Maybe we'd have less Cuomo's polluting our airwaves if we followed His lead?
