FBI failed to follow up on gun store owner’s warning

“Terrorists shouldn’t be allowed to own guns.”

That is the latest non-sequitur from Democrats. Conservatives couldn’t agree more with that bromide. Additionally, terrorists or terrorist-sympathizers shouldn’t be allowed to immigrate here nor should they be given security clearances to help advise on our counterterrorism programs.

Democrats are trying to smear law-abiding gun dealers, accusing them of selling guns to terrorists, but the reality is they are the ones doing their jobs. It is the Obama administration, aided and abetted by the GOP Congress, that is refusing to profile Islamic terrorists and prevent them from operating at every level of planning terrorist attacks – yes – including purchasing the gun.

Listen to Daniel's Podcast:

ABC News has interviewed a gun store owner in Florida who did his job and turned away Orlando terrorist Omar Mateen and then alerted the FBI:

Robert Abell, a co-owner of Lotus Gunworks in Jensen Beach, Florida, told ABC News today that a man entered the store five or six weeks ago and asked specific questions about high-end body armor. When employees said the store didn't carry the body armor he wanted, Abell said, the man made a phone call in a foreign language, hung up and then asked about ammunition in bulk. […]

Abell added that they thought the man was "very suspicious," so they called the local FBI office in West Palm Beach and reported the incident. But they didn't have the man's name, since no sale was made, and the only surveillance footage they had was grainy.

"We gave them information and everything that took place, and that was the end of the conversation," he said.

There was a follow-up conversation with agents, Abell said, but the FBI never visited the store or investigated further.

In the video of the interview, Abell went on to explain how gun store owners consider it their responsibility to do the right thing and serve as watch dogs for law enforcement.

Freeze frame for a moment. Democrats are asserting that the gun owning community is responsible for terrorists purchasing guns. The reality is that most terrorists are not on any list and there is no way for the government to verify that any one of the ticking time bombs among the Sharia immigrants (who haven’t yet committed a crime) will strike. It is the patriotic gun dealers who can use their expertise and experience to sniff out a first time terrorist. Yet, that involves what liberals call “profiling” or what average citizens call common sense.

We don’t have the details from the FBI defending their lack of concern or follow up with Mr. Abell, but it is not hard to understand how this could have been a casualty of the CVE (countering violent extremism) agenda. The FBI and DHS are intimidated into averting their eyes from any Islamic connection involved in piecing together the puzzle of suspicious activity. They train local law enforcement in CVE as well. It’s not beyond the realm of possibility that when the FBI agents heard Abell complain about a Middle Eastern looking individual acting suspiciously and making phone calls in foreign languages, they were scared of violating the CVE policy and being accused of profiling. This is exactly what transpired with the neighbors of Syed Farook in San Bernardino when they saw suspicious activity and packages around his garage.

Thus, rather than encourage people to work with the federal government to prevent terrorists from getting guns, liberal policies are deterring both law enforcement and gun dealers (and random citizens) from keeping their eyes open. They know that CAIR and other Muslim Brotherhood legal organizations are prepared to file a lawsuit at the drop of the hat. In fact, Omar Mateen actually accused police of being anti-Muslim when they rejected him from entering a police academy.

What this story demonstrates, once again, is that we are languishing from security threats precisely because we have a government committed to ignoring ‘assault people’ and focusing on so-called assault weapons. Yet, Republicans just passed legislation legitimizing the CVE agenda, which will ensure that all connections between terrorism and Islam are ignored and deleted. Sadly, instead of passing legislation on Monday reforming the FBI and DHS and mandating that they repeal CVE, Republicans plan to validate the Democrat premise that this is all about guns and will conduct votes on four gun control amendments in the Senate.

As career DHS officer and counterterrorism expert Phil Haney warns in his newly-released book, the message from our government as it relates to Middle Easterners acting suspicious is: See Something Say Nothing. When it comes to observing a patriotic neighbor with an AR-15, on the other hand …
