Jeff Flake has the world’s worst case of Trump Derangement Syndrome

Conservative Review

Arizona Senator Jeff Flake is set to compare President Trump to communist dictator Josef Stalin in a speech before the Senate Wednesday.

His office has released partial excerpts from his planned statement:

“The enemy of the people,” was what the president of the United States called the free press in 2017.

Mr. President, it is a testament to the condition of our democracy that our own president uses words infamously spoken by Josef Stalin to describe his enemies. It bears noting that so fraught with malice was the phrase “enemy of the people," that even Nikita Khrushchev forbad its use, telling the Soviet Communist Party that the phrase had been introduced by Stalin for the purpose of “annihilating such individuals” who disagreed with the supreme leader.

He also appeared on ABC to express those sentiments:

Of course, it’s a morally reprehensible and outrageous comparison to make. The Soviet dictator is an infamous historical figure who was known to commit genocide, impose mass starvation on innocents, and send his political opponents to Gulags.

Some could be led to believe that Flake simply has a flair for wild exaggeration and bombastic rhetoric. But this is not at all the case. Just take a look at how he treated Barack Obama’s presidency.

Not only does Flake appear to have a bad case of Trump Derangement Syndrome, but he will end his tenure in the Senate with no actual representative constituency left. Poll after poll shows that the people of Arizona have given up on Flake and much prefer someone else to fill his seat.

Sen. Flake has decided to retire after his term rather than face the humiliation of getting primaried as an incumbent. Before his retirement, Flake was flirting with single-digit approval ratings, and polls showed that he was trailing by 25+ points to primary challenger Dr. Kelli Ward.

The Arizona Senator has become more and more liberal during his tenure in the Senate. As CR’s Daniel Horowitz has pointed out, Flake has come to side with the Left on a variety of cultural, fiscal, and national security issues.
