Trump is right: Nancy Pelosi does love MS-13

President Donald Trump is accused of smearing House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., after he called her out at a rally in Tennessee for defending the "dignity" of members of the vicious gang MS-13.

Weeks ago, when Trump referred to MS-13 as "animals," Pelosi publicly rebuked him, saying to the press, "Does he not believe in the spark of divinity, the dignity and worth of every person? Calling people animals is not a good thing."

Trump fired back Tuesday night in Nashville, referring to Pelosi as an "MS-13 lover."

He used Pelosi's defense of MS-13 as ammunition to argue to voters that the Democrats are soft on crime and unworthy of governing Congress.

She loves MS-13. Can you imagine? Remember? I said they’re animals, and she said, ‘How dare you say that, how dare you say that?’ Have you seen what they’ve done? Have you seen what they’re doing to us? And we’re taking them out of our country by the thousands. Out. Out. By the thousands. ... Chuck and Nancy. They don’t want the wall. They want open borders. They are more interested in taking care of criminals than they are in taking care of you.

The Republican National Committee has happily echoed this line of attack. "Democrats' midterm message? MS-13 killers aren't so bad," they declare in a new, brutal ad juxtaposing Pelosi's comments to MS-13's violent, animalistic crimes.

Trump elevated his anti-immigration rhetoric to new heights tonight at his Tennessee rally, referring to “the MS-13 lover Nancy Pelosi” and saying Democrats are “more interested in taking care of criminals than they are in taking care of you.”

Is it really a "smear" of Pelosi to say she loves MS-13? She certainly loves policies that aid the evil gang's crimes.

• Pelosi is an ardent defender of sanctuary city policies. She claims they make Americans "safer" and has referred to laws passed to end sanctuary policies as "an act of cowardice." Sanctuary city policies routinely lead to the release of MS-13 criminals from custody.
• Pelosi once slammed Immigration and Customs Enforcement for arresting what she called "hard-working, law-abiding," "patriotic" illegal immigrants. About half of those arrested by ICE in the raid Pelosi criticized had criminal convictions.
• Pelosi has defended California's sanctuary state law against a challenge from the Trump administration by claiming illegal aliens "make America more American." As Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims now famously told President Trump, California's sanctuary state law prevents ICE from working with local law enforcement to keep citizens safe. If there's an MS-13 gang members she knows about, she cannot tell ICE unless they meet a "certain threshold." This discussion led to President Trump's "animals" comment.
• In 2009, Pelosi said that enforcing some U.S. immigration laws was "un-American," having previously accused ICE agents of "terrorizing" people in 2003. ICE works to deport violent criminals like those in MS-13 and under the Trump administration has been making great strides in arresting MS-13 gangsters.
• During the 2014 border surge, Pelosi said that the United States ought to treat the unaccompanied minor children who flooded the border like "baby Jesus." At the time, the Obama administration knew that gang members were arriving in the U.S. in this surge. Obama, Pelosi, and the Democrats did nothing to secure the border and prevent a future surge.
• Pelosi is a tireless champion of DACA amnesty, yet she never acknowledges that the country's MS-13 crisis stems in large part from promises of amnesty to so-called "Dreamers." There is a direct link between DACA, MS-13, and the opioid and fentanyl crisis, as CR's Daniel Horowitz has sounded the alarm on for months.
• At every opportunity, Pelosi opposes efforts by the Trump administration to secure the border, stem the flow of illegal immigration, and stop violent gangs like MS-13 from entering the U.S. illegally over the border. She has called Trump's plan for a border wall "immoral," and she voted against the Secure Fence Act in 2006.

Pelosi's record speaks for itself. She supports policies that permit MS-13 to commit violent crimes in the United States and opposes efforts by law enforcement that would combat illegal immigration and stop these crimes.
