Trump tweets … Back in July, I highlighted how the firm that compiled the “Trump Dossier” was getting very little play in the mainstream media. Fast forward to today, President Trump tweeted: “Workers of firm involved with the discredited and Fake Dossier take the 5th. Who paid for it, Russia, the FBI or the Dems (or all)?” This sent media types into a frenzy.
WaPo reporter unaware of WaPo story … One of those journalists was Washington Post national correspondent Karen Tumulty, who tweeted: “Astonishing allegation by a President of the United States against the Federal Bureau of Investigation:” The Washington Examiner’s Byron York fired back with a link to a story in Tumulty’s own newspaper about an agreement the dossier’s author had with the FBI for payment that was reportedly never fulfilled.
Payment predicated on corroboration … Trump has a legitimate right to question whether or not the FBI paid in any part for the “dossier.” In April of this year, the NY Times reported that the FBI offered the author “$50,000 for his efforts.” The catch was he needed solid corroboration. The Times further reports that no payment was made, according to two sources. But what if those sources are wrong? This is the problem with the media — they forget what is reported and react in a knee-jerk manner.
