Glenn Beck reacts to Mattis’ resignation and US troops leaving Syria

"We told them to trust us and now they're going to get literally wiped off the face of the planet"

Defense Secretary James "Mad Dog" Mattis stepped down from his post Thursday amid disagreements with President Donald Trump. In his letter of resignation, Mattis made it clear that he could not condone the president's decision to withdraw all U.S. forces from Syria.

On Friday's episode of "The Glenn Beck Radio Program," Glenn sat down with former military intelligence officer and chief researcher Jason Buttrill to discuss Mattis' resignation and the future impact of removing American troops from Syria.

"Mattis ... is our Patton, our MacAurther, our Eisenhower," Glenn said. "He is the most respected military commander of our lifetime -- is he not?"

"He is. And not just under the U.S. military either," said Jason. "I've actually sat through briefings where he has briefed a coalition of nations together, and they look at him in awe ... everyone respects Mattis."

Speaking in reference to the withdrawal of troops from Syria, Jason said, "[People] keep saying that we can't be the policemen of the world ... I totally agree. But two thousand troops in this area is not being the policemen of the world."

"We're providing these troops specifically so we don't have to deploy a larger force. That's the point. We're enabling the Kurds and the SDF to do the brunt of the fighting. We're there just to insure that Turkey or Assad or Iran don't commit genocide. And that is exactly what is about to happen," he continued.

"We told these people to trust us -- again. This has happened to them since World War I," added Jason. "We told them to trust us and now they're going to get literally wiped off the face of the planet."
