Joe Biden suggests 'social workers' should teach parents how to raise their kids — by turning on the 'record player'

This is in response to a question on slavery

During Thursday night's Democratic primary debate, former Vice President Joe Biden answered a question about slavery reparations with a bizarre suggestion that the government the should teach parents how to raise their children — by turning on the TV ... no, phone ... sorry, no, the "record player."

ABC News moderator Linsey Davis started out by reminding Biden that he was once adamant in his belief that Americans today are not responsible for our nation's history of slavery.

"I don't feel responsible for the sins of my father and grandfather," he said in 1975. "I feel responsible for what the situation is today, for the sins of my own generation. And I'll be damned if I feel responsible to pay for what happened 300 years ago."

"As you stand here tonight, what responsibility do you think that Americans need to take to repair the legacy of slavery in our country?" Davis asked Biden.

Biden skirted the issue of slavery altogether. Instead, he proposed pay raises for teachers — to "the $60,000 level" — and recommended providing help for teachers who "deal with the problems that come from home."

He went on to suggest "we bring social social workers into homes with parents — to help them to deal with how to raise their children. It's not that they don't want to help, they don't know quite what to do. Play the radio, make sure the television — excuse me, make sure you have the record player on at night, the phone — make sure the kids hear words."

On Friday's radio program, Glenn Beck and Stu Burguiere discussed Biden's performance in Thursday's 2020 Democratic debate.

"This is Joe Biden talking about how the government can really partner with parents, to help them raise their kids," Glenn said. "When was the last time you heard anyone say, you know, kids don't hear enough words, so make sure the parents have the record player on?"

"Can we also step back and realize he's talking about social workers coming into your home to help you raise your kids?" Stu added. "The policy, there, seems questionable as well ... especially if they're saying 'turn on the record player.'"
