Jay Carney, Vice President Joe Biden's communications director, is expected to be named White House Press Secretary "late this afternoon or more likely Friday," CNN's Ed Henry tweeted Thursday. Carney will replace Robert Gibbs who announced he would be leaving earlier this month.
A "senior Dem source" told Henry that the job was "totally lined up" for Carney before Obama named Bill Daley as his new chief of staff, and that Daley had proceeded to consider additional candidates, prolonging the appointment process.
In addition to acting as head of the vice president's communications team, Carney previously served as Washington bureau chief at Time magazine.
