Socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders Asked to Address Book to 'Capitalism' at Signing

"the greatest economic system on earth"

Jason Mattera, editor at Human Events, is well known for his ambush interviews of liberals. And he's struck again, this time confronting self-admitted socialist Senator Bernie Sanders.

In his new video, Mattera decides to confront Sanders about whether or not Sanders is profiting from his new book, The Speech: A Historic Filibuster on Corporate Greed and the Decline of Our Middle Class. It's a printing of his eight and a half hour filibuster speech in December decrying the president's tax deal with Republicans.

In the "Acknowledgements" section of the book, Sanders says his "authorial proceeds" will be donated to a children's charity. But Mattera wanted to make sure that was true, so he showed up at a recent book signing to ask about it. And while he does ask Sanders about the proceeds, he also asks a very interesting question: will Sanders sign Mattera's copy of the book to "capitalism, the greatest economic system on earth?"

The answer? No, and then yes -- sort of. See below:

To be fair, Sanders conveys the same message to Mattera as he does in the book's acknowledgements -- the money will go to charity. That's commendable. But in his write-up of the story, Mattera makes an interesting point:

Meanwhile, if Sanders follows through on his pledge, there’s no word on whether or not the Senate’s only (admitted) socialist will use the “donations” to lower his taxable income for 2012.
