Hank Williams Jr. issued a statement Monday afternoon following the cancellation of his "Monday Night Football" intro performance.
"Some of us have strong opinions and are often misunderstood," he said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "My analogy was extreme -- but it was to make a point. I was simply trying to explain how stupid it seemed to me -- how ludicrous that pairing was."
ESPN canceled Williams' intro after comparing a golf game between President Obama and Speaker John Boehner to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu meeting with Adolf Hitler.
