Since Y2K, the Mayan "prediction" that the world will end in 2012 has undeniably become the most popular apocalypse theory in recent years (sorry Harold Camping). Though no one seems to be sure what exactly will happen -- theories range from an alien invasion to a devastating pole shift -- many are convinced that because the Mayan calendar "ends" on December 21st, 2012, the world itself will end.
