Epic FAIL: BBC News confuses United Nations and video game logos

The BBC has apologized to its viewers after mistakenly showing a graphic from the computer game Halo instead of the United Nations Security Council during one of its news broadcasts.

The error occurred during a new segment last week on the continuing unrest in Syria.  Instead of the UN Security Council's logo, viewers of the British public broadcast network were shown a badge of the United Nations Space Command, a military agency depicted in Halo.

"BBC News makes every effort to ensure the accuracy of all images broadcast, however very occasionally mistakes do happen," a spokesman for the network said.  "Unfortunately an incorrect logo was used during a segment on last week's News at One bulletin and we apologise to viewers for the mistake."

One gamer website also noted the error:

A quick search for UNSC on Google brings up multiple variations of the image in the video and somebody who knew nothing about Halo or about the United Nations Security Council could have easily made this mistake. With that said, they're working on an internationally broadcast news program, so why on earth they could go through life without having at least a passing knowledge of either is a little bit worrying.

Clearly the logos are hard to distinguish:
