Time Mag's Infamous Breastfeeding Mom Is Back...Breastfeeding on a Different Magazine's Cover

The mom who turned heads and made headlines after she posed for the cover of Time magazine breastfeeding her 3-year-old son, is back, this time breastfeeding her son on a different magazine cover.

The latest issue of Pathways to Family Wellness features Jamie Lynne Grumet breastfeeding Aram, now four, on the couch with her husband and other young son. The photo is starkly different from Time's cover shot, which had Aram standing on a chair to nurse.

Though Grumet said back in May she and her family knew "exactly what we were getting into" with attention-grabbing Time cover, she told Pathways that "the first time I saw it, I just thought, ugh."

"The bizarre attention from Time was still going strong when we agreed to do this shoot," Grumet wrote on her blog of the decision to do Pathways. "It was nice to be able to tell our story and show toddler breastfeeding in a way we knew would not be manipulated."

Pathways photographer Lori Dorman said her goal with the photo was "to correct the misperception that was created on the Time cover. Its message was that nursing a 3-year-old was outrageous and inappropriate, when in fact nursing a 3-year-old is a normal, healthy activity in the world today.”
