The Senate has spent part of the past week focused on the confirmation hearings of Secretary of Defense nominee Chuck Hagel. An issue looming over these proceedings is the sequester. Billions in cuts to the nation’s defense budget are scheduled at a time when things feel perhaps less secure across a wider swath of globe than ever, with a suicide bombing at a U.S. Embassy in Turkey just today.
