Goggle Up' for This Video About Exploding Glass With Fascinating Properties
March 25, 2013
Have you ever heard of a Prince Rupert's drop? No? That's alright, the gentleman with the YouTube channel Smarter Everyday has a whole segment regarding the interesting drop of glass and its explosive properties -- that's right, explosive.
A Prince Rupert drop is a phenomenon that occurs when molten glass is dropped into a cold water. It forms a ball with a thin tail. As Smarter Everyday describes it, it looks sort of a like a tadpole.

Amazingly though, the glass cannot be broken. That is, it can't be smashed -- even with a hammer -- if it's hit on the more bulbous part of the glass. A mere tap on the thinner tail portion though will explode the glass.
