Gut-Wrenching Photo From Pro-Abortion Protest in Texas

"No to SB5"

Thousands of pro-abortion protesters gathered at the Texas Capitol on Monday to oppose pro-life legislation being considered by the state Legislature. Some of the protesters also decided to use their children to promote abortion.

According to multiple accounts and photos of the demonstration, two young children were seen holding up a sign with a wire hanger drawn on it, accompanied by the words "no to SB5."

It is unclear how using children to defend the practice of abortion could possibly be an effective strategy.

Twitter exploded with disgust over the photo. Twitchy has some of the reactions:

Lawmakers convened a new special legislative session aimed at reviving the bill that would limit where, when and how women may obtain abortions in the state. Supporters say it will protect women's health and fetuses, while opponents say it is designed to shutter the state's abortion clinics.

More than 5,000 demonstrators gathered at noon to oppose the new abortion restrictions as television stars and Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks rallied the cheering crowd.

State Sen. Wendy Davis, the Forth Democrat whose filibuster in the last session helped catapult her into the national spotlight, told the crowd that their support helped her maintain the effort.

The proposed legislation in Texas would ban abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy, require that the procedure be performed at ambulatory surgical centers, and mandate that doctors who perform abortions obtain admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles.
