Hooters Waitress Claims Redskins RGIII Sent Her 'Inappropriate' Texts on His Wedding Day

"Going through his twitter feed I found a girl he RT that said she missed him..."

Robert Griffin III, the Redskins' quarterback and NFL 2012 Offensive Rookie of the Year, is now the center of a potential sexting scandal as a Hooters waitress is claiming the 23-year-old sent her "inappropriate" text messages -- on his wedding day no less.

What has transpired within the last week of has been a slew of he-said-she-saids with no comment from RGIII himself as he is on his honeymoon.

It all started last week when the website Busted Coverage was tipped via its hotline by someone named Brandon K. Busted Coverage issued its initial story Sunday, leading with Brandon K.'s tip:

So I was looking through RGIII’s twitter feed the night of his wedding.  I followed his RTs to a groomsman of his, William Mallow.  Going through his twitter feed I found a girl he RT that said she missed him.  She looked hot so I looked at her feed.  (@Mere__)  THat night one of her friends tweeted “RGIII getting married today.  Will @Mere__ crash the wedding?”  She responds immediately with “I could show Becky this though”  and its a picture of her text messages with a guy name RgIII in her phone.  The text show a black guy lifting up his shirt showing a six pack and trying to get her to respond.  This is 1am July 6th (day of wedding) and then finally gives up after no response from her.

With Brandon's tip showing this Twitter feed, screencaptures of an alleged text message sent to Barber from a contact named RGIII and it's own investigation, Busted Coverage revealed more about Barber's supposed relationship with the football player:

We should note that @Mere_ (Barber's Twitter account) has been deactivated at this point.

An email exchange between Busted Coverage's Joe Kinsey and a redacted email address, which he claims to be from Barber, a student at Virginia Commonwealth University, came next.

The email begins with Barber writing that if Busted Coverage were to take down their original story, she would provide them with all the information she had under the condition she remain anonymous "for the sake of my reputation and family." Barber continues to write that she won't confirm anything -- true or false -- or provide information until the original story was offline.

But Kinsey presses and eventually, Barber writes that she has "inappropriate pictures that I want to sell." Kinsey continues to ask for more details and eventually the email divulges more.

"I have texts showing his number not just contact "RG3", screenshots of snapchats, inappropriate pictures, etc. ...Give me a dollar amount for what you would pay for them," the email read.

A negotiation between the two continues, as Barber keeps pressing Kinsey for a price and Kinsey insists for proof of it really being RGIII.

Eventually, Kinsey offers $500, but this doesn't satisfy Barber.

Around the same time, Deadspin said it too received an email from someone claiming to be Barber's ex-boyfriend and offering to sell similar images for $25,000.

Although, Busted Coverage states that it hasn't communicated with Barber since this email exchange. But the story didn't end there.

William Mallow, one of RGIII's groomsmen, wrote to Busted Coverage that "Meredith is looking for attention/money" and that the story of her having such images and conversations with the NFL quarterback is "completely false." Mallow claims to have been with RGIII that night and said there "was zero texting of other girls, much less selfie stomach shots." Not only that, but the background, he said, isn't in anyway similar to the suite where they were staying.

Mallow claims to then have proof -- screenshots of texts he had with Meredith -- showing that she was only joking.

But if you thought this explanation would put the story to rest, it doesn't. Head over to Busted Coverage for more on the twisted story.

Are these claims believable? Deadspin has a few thoughts on this question:

The emails from the ex-boyfriend and the ones from Meredith on [Busted Coverage] share similarities in the items on offer, even in phrasing, and each sent an identical "sample" photo of a shirtless man with his face blacked out.

We also heard from another reader, who had originally contacted us back in January. He was offering a story about how Griffin had been "catfished" by an older woman posing as a college-age girl. She had supposedly received scores of texts and Facebook messages from Griffin [...].

SportsGrid too believes there are very valid reasons to question all these claims:

There is zero reason to believe RGIII sent it. It has a picture of someone that could be RGIII attached. That means nothing. Changing someone’s contact to “RGIII” and having them text you is very easy. You can even do it yourself. Creating fake texts on the internet is also extremely easy. I once wrote a (fictional!) story about Tim Tebow marrying a Jew and created these alleged texts from Tebow’s phone in about three minutes.

RGIII married Rebecca Liddicoat this month and has been on his honeymoon in Europe since the allegations broke.
