Report: MSNBC to Hire Controversial Far-Left Actor to Host Primetime Show

Alec Baldwin, known for his profanity-laced rants and explosive temper, is getting his own weekly primetime show on MSNBC, Mediaite reports, citing a "senior source in the cable news industry."

The yet-to-be titled show will apparently air on Fridays at 10 p.m. ET and will "feature a large dose of Baldwin's outspoken liberal politics," according to the site.

Lawrence O'Donnell currently occupies the 10 p.m. slot Monday through Thursday only, so the move will apparently not shake up MSNBC's primetime lineup. The "Lockup" prison documentary series runs on Friday nights at that time.

"Our source insists its a done deal but there is no question MSNBC is not quite prepared for an announcement," the report adds.

The controversial actor has never been shy about expressing his far-left political views, which could possibly be what made the hire an attractive prospect for MSNBC in the first place.

Baldwin also has extensive ties with NBC as an actor. He has starred on NBC's "30 Rock" for seven years, appeared on "Saturday Night Live" several times and hosted the network's Live Earth concert in 2007.
