BALTIMORE (AP) — A Baltimore police detective who claimed he was shot by another man and sought worker’s compensation has been convicted of perjury and fraud.A Baltimore Circuit Court jury also convicted Anthony N. Fata Wednesday of misconduct in office. Sentencing is set for Oct. 21.
Fata, a 14-year veteran, said he was shot on Jan. 18, 2011 in a garage near police headquarters by another man and returned fire. He suffered a graze wound to his thigh.
Prosecutors say Fata shot himself to obtain worker’s compensation benefits.
