Did You Spot the 'Star Wars' Tribute in the Latest 'Star Trek' Film?

"I'm sure this plucky fellow will find a way back into the next film."

It's probably not surprising that there are some fans of "Star Wars" who are also Trekkies (those would be "Star Trek" fans, for the uninitiated). And while you shouldn't dare get the two confused, if you swore you saw the "Star Wars" droid R2-D2 in the latest "Star Trek" flick, you would actually be correct.

The endearing round-headed robot from the George Lucas films was spotted in J.J. Abrams's "Star Trek Into Darkness" by fans now that the film has been released on DVD and can be scrutinized as closely as possible.

Science and tech site io9 explained that one of its readers, Rafael Oca, took a screenshot about one hour and 17 minutes into the film as evidence.

"After the Vengeance fires on the Enterprise while the ships are in warp, poor R2 gets sucked out of the ship with other members of the crew. I'm sure this plucky fellow will find a way back into the next film, though," io9 reported, noting R2's cameo appearance in the other 2009 "Star Trek" movie.

It turns out that R2-D2 has made a few Easter egg appearances in other flicks as well. See the evidence on Movie Club's website.
