Super Bowl-Champion QB Skips This Family Event to Play Game -- Was It the Right Call?
September 15, 2013
"I asked him what chance he'd miss a game..."
Joe Flacco, quarterback of the Super Bowl-champion Baltimore Ravens, made a huge call Sunday — and it had nothing to do with whether to pass, scramble, or take a sack.
An hour before kickoff against the Cleveland Browns, Flacco's wife gave birth to the couple's second child, ESPN reports.
But Flacco didn't witness the birth; he was warming up for the game at the time.
And he didn't make a quick exit to see his wife and new child; he stayed and played.

Flacco — the second-highest paid player in the NFL at $120.6 million over six years — went 22 for 33 for 211 yards, helping the Ravens to a 14-6 victory, their first of the season.

Apparently Flacco had already decided what he'd do if his child was born on a game day. ESPN's Kevin Van Valkenburg notes the details on Twitter:

So, what do you say? Did Flacco make the right call? Is it a "whatever is right for a family" decision...or "every dad must be at his child's birth if at all humanly possible"? We invite you to participate in our Blaze Poll below.
